base

A docking and charging stand for a headset. Some bases also work as a connection station for deskphone, softphone, and smartphone/tablet.

behind-the-ear

Refers to a headset wearing style, where the device stays in place due to a design that wraps behind the ear.

behind-the-head

Refers to a headset wearing style, where the device is worn over one of the ears, and then supported by a headband around the back of the head (rather than over the head).

Bluetooth

A standard for the short-range wireless interconnection of mobile phones, computers, and other electronic devices.

Bluetooth adapter

A Plug-and-Play device that plugs into a USB port on a computer and enables a Bluetooth connection between the computer and a Jabra device.

Bluetooth profile

Refers to the ways in which Bluetooth enabled devices communicate with each other to provide functionality and features.

bone conduction

The transfer of sound to the inner ear primarily through the bones of the skull.

boom arm

A headset part that supports a microphone and which may be movable.

busylight

A light built into a headset that activates if you are on a call (or if you self-activate it), to let others know you are busy.

call analytics

The measurement, collection, and analysis of phone call data to monitor call handling.

call control unit

A unit that is separate from a headset, and that enables the controlling of calls.

call merging

The process of adding an incoming call to a current call.

caller ID

A phone service that identifies the number of a caller for an incoming call.

camera controller

A tool in Jabra Direct and Jabra Sound+ that enables remote control of the Jabra PanaCast 50 from a computer, phone, or tablet.

Certified for Skype for Business

Refers to a device that meets the Microsoft standard for use with Skype for Business.

collaboration application

The integration of collaboration and communication services that are exchanged over an enterprise network, for example, web and video conferencing, instant messaging, and presence information.

Commute Moment

A sound profile within the Jabra Sound+ app, which is designed to ensure that the connected device is providing sound that is optimized for the wearer's environment when they are commuting.

compatibility guide

A reference guide that establishes which products are compatible with other products, services, and accessories.

conference call

A phone call in which you can talk to one or more people at the same time.

conference mode

A function for a Jabra wireless DECT base solution, in which one to three additional base compatible headsets can be connected to the master base. The connected participants can listen and talk to each other during a phone or conference call.

connectivity

The capability of connecting a headset or base to additional devices and systems.

convertible

Refers to the adaptable wearing style of a Jabra headset. For example, you can wear the headset attached to a headband, neckband, or earhook.

corded

Refers to a headset style that uses a cable to connect to an audio source, such as a phone or music.

decibel (dB)

A unit used to measure the intensity of a sound or the power level of an electrical signal.

DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications)

A high quality, wireless radio technology used to transmit signals between a headset and a base.

DECT density

The concentration of headsets using DECT technology, that are installed in an area.

desk phone

A stationary phone that sits on a desk or table.

dial tone switch

A switch on a headset base that is used to find the dial tone of a desk phone and adjust the audio clarity.

digital headset

A headset that has the processing chip located in the headset instead of in the control unit or cord. This location enables enhanced audio, functionality, and user experience.

digital signal processing (DSP)

The digital processing of audio signals by a Jabra audio device to improve the sound.

digital zoom

A method of digitally manipulating the frame of a video or photograph to make a certain section/part of the image larger or smaller, by zooming in or out.

duo

Refers to a headset that has two earpieces. A mono signal is transmitted to both earpieces.

earbud

A device consisting of a speaker/pair of speakers inserted in the ear(s) and used for listening to audio such as music or speech. Jabra earbuds are equipped with a microphone and can also be used for phone communication. See also: 'earphones', 'headphones', 'headset'.

EarGel

A soft headset part that is designed to channel sound directly into the ear.

EarHook

A headset part that wraps over and around the ear to secure the headset.

EarWing

An earbud accessory that braces the earbud within the outer ear for a more secure fit.

electronic hook switch (EHS)

A cable solution that connects a wireless headset base and a desk phone, enabling call control functionality directly on the headset.

equalizer

In sound reproduction, hardware or software that lets a user adjust the frequencies of recorded sound, to improve or customize his or her listening experience.

Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS)

The standards set by the US government for use in computer systems supplied by government contractors. Some Jabra DECT products are FIPS compliant.

Field of View (FoV)

Refers to the amount of the observable world which is visible at any given moment. When used in reference to video/camera technology, it refers to how much of the observable world is visible on the screen.

Find my car

A Jabra feature, using geo tagging, that is part of the Jabra Assist app.

Find my Jabra

A Jabra feature, using geo tagging, that is part of the Jabra Assist and Jabra Connect apps.

full duplex

Refers to the two-way transmission of audio when talking on a speakerphone, which allows everyone to speak and be heard simultaneously.

half duplex

Refers to the one-way transmission of audio when talking on a speakerphone, which means only one person on a call can speak and be heard at a time.

handset

A portable wireless phone, or the part of a desk phone, that contains the mouthpiece and earpiece.

HDMI

High-Definition Multimedia Interface - a method of transmitting high-definition audio and video to a compatible device, such as a HD television or HD computer monitor.

HD Voice

Refers to high-definition voice quality for audio. Call technology that carries voice data in a wider band of frequencies. Also known as 'wideband'.

headband

The part of a headset that goes over the head (or around the back of it) and supports the earpieces.

headphone(s)

A device consisting of a speaker/pair of speakers worn on, around, or in the ear(s) and used for listening to audio such as music or speech. Jabra headphones are equipped with a microphone and can also be used for phone communication. See also: 'earbuds', 'earphones', 'headset'.

headset

A device consisting of a speaker/pair of speakers worn on, around, or in the ear(s) and typically equipped with a microphone boom arm. A headset is used especially for Enterprise phone communication where there is focus on reducing ambient noise that is picked up from a user’s surroundings. See also: 'earbuds', 'earphones', 'headphones'.

headset port

The port on a desk phone where you connect a headset.

hearing protection

Refers to the technologies and standards that are applied to Jabra earbuds/headphones/headsets to protect user hearing and safety.

HearThrough

A Jabra feature that lets you hear surrounding sounds through the earcups/earbuds while you are wearing them. Ambient sounds are picked up by the microphones and transmitted to the speakers. HearThrough works when listening to music, when on calls (product-dependent), and also when there is no speaker sound.

hot desking

An office layout, where multiple workers use a single physical work station during different time periods.

huddle room

A small meeting room, typically seating up to 8 people and equipped with teleconferencing and collaboration technologies.

in-car speakerphone

A portable device used for sending and receiving audio in a car.

In Private Moment

A sound profile within the Jabra Sound+ app, which is designed to ensure that the connected device is providing sound that is optimized for the wearer's environment when they are in a quiet place.

In Public Moment

A sound profile within the Jabra Sound+ app, which is designed to ensure that the connected device is providing sound that is optimized for the wearer's environment when they are in public.

Intelligent Zoom

A feature within Jabra PanaCast which automatically zooms and pans the camera to include all visible people in the room.

in-the-ear

Refers to the wearing style of an earbud, which you insert and wear in your ear. Also known as 'in-ear'.

IP (Ingress Protection) rating

A standard that rates the degree of protection provided by a device against the intrusion of solid objects, dust, accidental contact, and water. For example, the IP56 rating has high resistance to dust and water. Learn more about IP rating here

Jabra Device Firmware Updater

A software wizard that guides users through the steps required to update the firmware of a Jabra device.

Jabra Sound+

A Jabra smartphone app designed to support and enhance your calls and music experience when using certain Jabra devices.

leather-feel

Refers to a synthetic material that feels like leather. For example, 'leather-feel' ear cushions on a headset.

LED indicator

The lights on a device that indicate the status of specific functions.

Listen-in

A Jabra feature that lets you hear surrounding sounds through your headset/earbuds, while you are wearing them. Surrounding sounds are picked up by the microphones and transmitted to the speakers. When you use Listen-in, speaker audio such as calls or music, is muted but not paused.

Listen Modes

The predefined sound profiles, within the Jabra Enhance app, which deliver the most appropriate sound to your hearing-enhancement earbuds to suit your surroundings.

microphone guidance

Live, onscreen feedback during a call, that informs the headset user how to adjust the position of the microphone boom arm to get the best audio performance.

modular connector

For a Jabra solution, an interface that links multiple electrical terminations to create a circuit used with a desk phone. Also known as a plug, jack, registered jack (RJ), for example.

Moment

A set of predefined audio settings within the Jabra Sound+ app. Each Moment is designed for a specific situation. For example, 'Commute' is designed to give the best sound experience while commuting. You can adjust the settings for each Moment to further optimize them for each situation.

mono

Refers to a headset that has one earpiece.

mono mode

The ability to use either one of a pair of true wireless earbuds, independently of the other.

motion sensor

A built-in sensor that automatically detects when a Jabra device is put on or taken off the head. This enables the device to perform certain actions in response. For example, pausing or playing audio, answering or muting calls, or enabling sleep mode.

multi-camera

Refers to a camera system which uses multiple cameras to produce an image that is extended beyond what one camera could deliver, for example, the 180° Panoramic-4K room coverage provided by the Jabra PanaCast.

multi-connect

Refers to the ability to pair your Jabra device with up to eight separate Bluetooth devices, and to be actively connected to two devices simultaneously. The technical term for this function is 'multipoint'.

Multi-function button

On Jabra headsets/headphones/earbuds, the part that controls the basic functions.

Multipoint

Bluetooth technology that enables pairing and connection between a headset and two devices simultaneously. Audio is transmitted from only one device at a time.

MultiSensor Voice

A Jabra technology that automatically cancels out wind noise when you are on a call. It combines powerful microphones, an advanced Voice Pick Up (VPU) sensor in each earbud, bone conduction sensors, and unique algorithms.

Multiuse

A Jabra feature that enables connectivity between a headset/headphones/earbuds and multiple telephony devices.

MyControls

A Jabra Sound+ app feature which allows you to reconfigure the standard button functions on your Jabra device, to make them perform different tasks than those predefined in the device's factory settings. You can reconfigure the buttons to control media, call handling, and Sound Modes according to your preference.

MyFit

A feature in the Jabra Sound+ app that checks the fit of each earbud to help you determine the best EarGel size and position of the earbud. The fit is important for obtaining a good audio experience and Active Noise Cancellation (ANC).

MySound

A Jabra Sound+ app feature in which an audio test is performed to create a personalized audio profile. Your MySound profile is then used to calibrate your Jabra device to optimize your music listening experience.

narrowband

Call technology that carries voice data in a narrower band of frequencies, as opposed to HD Voice (wideband).

Near Field Communication (NFC)

A set of communication protocols that enables two electronic devices to establish communication.

neckband

The part of a headset that goes around the back of the neck and supports the earbuds.

Noise at Work

The levels of noise that people are exposed to on the job. Or refers to region-specific regulations that control these levels of noise.

noise cancellation

Technology that reduces the level of ambient noise you hear when wearing a headset.

noise cancelling (NC) microphone

A microphone that is designed to filter out ambient noise from the sound of a voice.

omni-directional microphone

A microphone that receives sound from all sides and directions.

on-ear detection

A feature that automatically detects when the headphones are put on or taken off and performs certain actions in response. For example, pausing or playing audio, answering or muting calls, or enabling sleep mode.

on-premises

A method of storing data or software so that it is accessible locally on the computers of the people or organization using the software, instead of at a remote facility such as a server farm or cloud.

on-the-ear

Refers to a wearing style of headset, where the ear cups sit on but do not enclose the ear.

Over The Air (OTA)

Refers to the wireless transmission and receipt of information and signals. Used, for example, to distribute firmware updates to mobile devices.

over-the-ear

Refers to a wearing style of headset, where the ear cups completely cover and enclose the ear.

pairing

The process of establishing a wireless connection between two Bluetooth enabled devices.

pairing mode

Refers to the state of a device when it is searching for other Bluetooth devices to pair with.

Panoramic-4K

A screen resolution that is equivalent to two 1080p displays side by side, joined together using real-time image stitching.

Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ)

Physical movements of a camera which allow a user to control and position the camera for a particular view. Pan refers to the horizontal movement of the lens. Tilt refers to the vertical movement of the lens. Zoom refers to the adjustment of the focal length of the lens to make a subject appear closer or further away.

Passive Noise Cancellation (PNC)

The reduction of high frequency noise in the headset speakers based on the physical design (size, diameter, shape, material) of the earcups.

PeakStop

A Jabra feature that eliminates potentially harmful sound spikes to the ears of the user.

pixel

The smallest single component of a digital image.

Plug and Play

Refers to devices that work when first used or connected. There is no need for additional software or configuration to attain full functionality.

Power Nap

A feature that conserves the battery life of a Jabra wireless device, by setting it in standby mode when it has not been used.

Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN)

The aggregate of the world's circuit-switched telephone networks that are operated by national, regional, or local telephony operators, providing infrastructure and services for public telecommunication.

Push-To-Talk (PTT)

A method of telecommunications that uses a headset button to switch between voice reception and voice transmission modes. In default mode (the button is not pressed) the microphone is muted. To transmit voice, the user presses the button.

quick disconnect (QD) cable

A cable that seamlessly connects a corded headset to a phone, and which may also have functions to control the headset.

Enhanced audio protection for a headset that ensures a safe listening level and meets the EU and US safety requirements for Noise at Work.

Enhanced hearing protection for headset users, that ensures a safe listening level while following the Australian regulatory requirements for telecommunications equipment guidelines.

Safety Capacity

A feature on the Jabra PanaCast 50 which allows administrators to define the safe occupancy limit for a meeting room, and then receive an alert if that limit is exceeded.

ShakeGrip

An earbud coating made with a special compound of Liquid Silicone Rubber that holds the earbuds securely in the ear. Jabra ShakeGrip keeps your buds firmly in place when you are active.

sidetone

Audio feedback from one's own voice, that a headset user hears when speaking into the microphone. Voice is picked up by the microphone and transmitted to the speaker. You can typically adjust the sidetone level on a Jabra device.

sleep mode

A standby mode feature automatically entered by some Jabra wireless devices after a period of inactivity, to preserve battery.

SmartSound

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology that uses the microphones in the headphones to 'listen' to your immediate surroundings and automatically change audio settings based on your predefined preferences, or the default profiles (Moments) within Jabra Sound+.

softphone

Software based telephony that lets a user make phone calls over the internet using a computer.

speakerphone

A combination speaker and microphone, that lets you remotely control calls on a connected phone.

standby time

The amount of time a wireless Jabra audio device can remain powered on while not being used for calls, especially in relation to the capacity of the battery.

stereo

Refers to sound that comes through two or more speakers so that it seems to surround the listener and come from more than one source.

surrounding audio

The ambient noise which can be heard in your immediate surroundings.

talk time

The amount of time a wireless Jabra audio device can be used for calls, especially in relation to the capacity of the battery.

target phone

The phone that is used to answer incoming calls if multiple phones are connected.

telecoil

As an aid to hearing aid users, a headset is equipped with a telecoil that supports a compatible hearing aid, thereby enhancing the sound quality from the phone.

true wireless

Refers to Bluetooth earbuds that do not have a cord connecting them to each other or to an audio device.

Ultra-Noise-Cancelling (UNC) microphone

A microphone designed specifically for use in high noise environments, which can prevent the transmission of almost all background noise.

Unified Communications (UC)

The integration of communication services that are exchanged over an enterprise network. For example, web and video conferencing, instant messaging, and presence information.

US military standard

The standards set by the US Department of Defense that ensure products meet certain requirements.

US OSHA

The United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The Jabra Safetone feature complies with the US OSHA requirements (see 'Safetone').

video conferencing

A technology that allows two or more locations to communicate via live, simultaneous, two-way video and audio transmissions.

video conferencing application (VC)

A type of collaboration application in which it is possible to communicate and collaborate via video. Also referred to as video conferencing.

video resolution

The number of pixels, or individual digital components, that are contained within a video display, determining the visual quality of the video. The more pixels, the higher the pixel density, the better the video quality/resolution.

Virtual Director

A feature on the Jabra PanaCast 50 which utilizes advanced speaker tracking to focus the camera view on whomever is currently speaking.

voice assistant

Voice activated software on a smartphone or other device, that can supply information and perform certain types of tasks for the user. For example, Google Assistant™, Siri®, MS Cortana, Amazon Alexa.

voice control

A spoken command a user can give to control a headset function. For example, 'Answer' to answer a call. Also, the ability to enable spoken commands to smartphone systems such as Siri, Google Now, or Cortana.

voice guidance

Voice announcements from a Jabra device that help you use the device.

Voice over IP phone (VoIP)

A technology that uses the internet for telephone or video conferencing communication.

wearing style

The style in which a Jabra audio device can be worn. For example, 'around-the-neck', 'over-the-ear'.

wide-angle

Refers to a view which is wider than usual. It can refer to a specific lens for a camera, designed to capture a wide-angle view, or it can also refer to the resulting video or imagery, for example: "this is a wide-angle shot of the product."

wideband

High Definition audio voice quality. Call technology that carries voice data in a wider band of frequencies. More commonly referred to as 'HD Voice'.

wind noise reduction

Microphone technology that reduces the ambient noise created by wind.

wireless

Refers to a device that does not have cables and uses wireless technology, such as Bluetooth or DECT, to connect to an audio source such as a phone or music.

wireless charging enabled

Refers to a device's compatibility with wireless charging, where the device is charged by placing it on a charging pad which is connected to a power source. There is no need to connect the device to a cable to charge it.

wireless range

The maximum distance that there is wireless connectivity for a device. For example, the wireless range is 30 meters/100 feet.

ZoomTalk

Jabra technology that identifies a human voice from the ambient sound around it.
